I have participated in the 2016 Ripped-Off exhibit with Alma Lee. This exhibit is where artists pick a work of another artist and do an interpretation of that work. I chose Alma's "Hangs in the Balance" as my inspiration. I have always liked this piece for its balance and lines. I sought to create this balance in my own image. I used scanned images of leaves. The grapes I had selected from another image. Cut them out and layered them with the leaves. I added lines to be reminiscent of Alma's work. I colored the background and layered it all together to create this final image.
I spent a great deal of time wandering around Alma's portfolio to find just the right piece. Her work is so varied and fun. She has so much to choose from and her use of color just boggles my mind!
This was fun for me and I enjoyed the time spent with her portfolio picking out a piece to "rip" and the time spent creating this image. I have included her original for you to see where my inspiration came from.
