As I have written before, I name these things at the very end. I name them for what they remind me of once they are finished, not for any idea that I had ahead of time. It's fun and interesting, to me, that each shape and color I paint must be just so even though I do not have a preconceived idea of what I am painting. The naming is for others and tracking more than myself. I guess what I'm getting at is that abstract paintings have a structure of their own based on colors and shapes, independent of figurative meaning. It's fascinating that this structure seems to flow from my own experiences; visual, emotional and both in life and in painting. It makes the process a very different kind of discovery/journey that the pursuit of the figurative, dimensional form.
