This is a needle felted sculpture of a cat named Lucky.
He was rescued by some people when they were living in Spain. He does have a bald spot and scar on the right side of his face. The basic shape for this sculpture was made from core fiber (a mixture of wool fibers). It was then covered with Merino fiber and then painstakingly furred with Merino fiber. The whiskers are real cat whiskers from my own cats (that I have been collecting for years and years). There is a wire armature in his tail. Generally I dislike armatures for needle felted projects because it encourages over handling of the sculptures.
I had this commission for a long time, but had difficulty pursuing it after the death of my husband last year. Needle felting cats has always been a great pleasure, but I just wasn't ready to sculpt Lucky until recently. I think the wait was worthwhile.
