It has been a very wet and miserable summer combined with the fact that I am not to be in the sun for any length of time. I did not have a plan for entering this months plein air garden contest. But today the sun was down and it was only 70ΒΊ sooooooo.
I got set up outside, literally just outside my studio. My garden this year is a bit unconventional, more metal plastic and wood than plants. It is designed to be low maintenance. But I do love succulents, and I managed to "over winter some this past year and invested in some more. I planted them all in these beautiful bamboo pots and put them all together with lots and lots of rocks.
I knew that anything I did would have to be completed in one setting. That turned out to be more liberating
than inhibiting. It made me make quick decisions and sure strokes. Before I knew it I was relaxed and having a blast. I love painting with a palette knife and this is how 95% of this was painted.. Just Between Me and My Flamingo was done utilizing modeling paste, acrylic, oils and oil sticks.
