Pissarro's orchard lies dormant
it's limbs waving in the wind
whispers of Spring
strike a chord midst it's naked limbs
Slowly surely the buds arise
open and shivering as they open wide
air is filled with sweet fragrance
as the pinkest of blush unfolds inside
This is my first attempt at an oil painting done in the style of Pissarro. It has been my belief that Pissarro is one of the most underrated and overlooked impressionists. Somewhere between Monet and Seurat, Pissarro's stroke are abbreviated and saturated with delightful almost dance like movement. It is in the that mid length stroke that the artists direction and intent is revealed. You can almost see the rhytum and way he navigated the placement of pigment on the canvas. It is a delightful orchestra of color, movement and form all in a concert of harmony. Art is one with Nature as Nature is one with Art.
