Mourning Doves in Blizzard

- by Dave Bredemeier

This week's theme: Winter Landscapes

Bare limbs in relief against the sky. A muffled world in a blanket of snow. Cold and lean, yet complete and beautiful. It must be a winter landscape.

Art: Mourning Doves in Blizzard by Artist Dave Bredemeier
Perhaps my most popular image, this photo shows a flock of Morning Doves riding out a winter blizzard on the branches of a maple tree. Many people seem drawn to the plight of the birds, and to the "Japanise Print" quality of the patterns the birds and branches make against the white snow/paper. Though not a high resolution image (snow flakes and double pane glass don't help!) its roughness seems to enhance the feeling of the weather. It has been mildly enhanced with the Photoshop drybrush filter.
