Once More Unto The Breach

- by Richard Holland

This week's theme: Vision

Vision can be conceptual within the mind or sensual via the eye. Both definitions are found in art when the vision of the artist is perceived by the vision of those that view it.

Art: Once More Unto The Breach by Artist Richard Holland
What makes a photograph more than just a snapshot is the way textures and tones, the blending of light and color, and composition tell the story of the moment. The more you look at a piece of photographic art, the more you see and are moved. As a Social Landscape Photographer, I look to capture personal and unusual moments during apparently ordinary events in the lives of individuals; the way they act and react in and to their environment. This past fall I recorded a local dance company's 10th Anniversary production the Nutcracker, from auditions through final performance. In this piece a young dancer removes her toe shoes and puts on her ballet slippers to continue a run through on the final weekend of Nutcracker rehearsals. The slipper itself appears to be tired just prior to being summoned into service, yet the fluidity of the curve of the strings on top seem to be telling the story of the dance to come. While the impressions on the top of her foot tell the story of the dances she has just performed.
