"Hunting Train"

- by Johnye Cruse

This week's theme: Trains

Continuing in an industrial theme, this week Art Of The Day is featuring trains. Oh, those ribbons of track that have linked coasts, countries and cultures. Those iron horses that carried the adventurous to new landscapes and new lives. If we look past the romantic we see that trains were critical in expanding and industrializing our world. Goods and products could easily be taken from their point of origin to the consumers. Workers could easily travel to areas where there was land to farm or industries in which to work. The railroad made more parts of the world accessible, more opportunities available and created our mobile societies.

Art: Hunting Train by Artist Johnye Cruse
During the early days of the railroads, excursions were booked from Minneapolis to the Dakotas and Montana for hunters. They were allowed a designated amount of gear and for extra could bring their horse and or dog. The train would pull onto a siding, the hunters would detrain and begin hunting. Game was abundant. A photographer complete with booth for displaying their kills was present. The white flag on the front of the train meant it was a special. Original SOLD Prints available image size 7"X14" mats to 13"X20"
