This week's theme: Tomatoes

Like so many people, we have a garden. We look forward to the fresh vegetables and herbs - peppers, basils, oreganos, okra and squash are just a few of the seedlings in the ground. However, like so many backyard gardeners, our most eagerly anticipated garden harvest will be the tomatoes.

This little 5"x6"x1-1/2" oil on canvas reflects what I've been doing when not painting... canning tomatoes out of my garden! This still life created itself on the steel table in my kitchen. I just happened to see it when the light was perfect the morning after they were picked. This is a vignette of a reference that I plan to use for a larger canvas and call it "Waiting to be Canned".
