Here in the Northern Hemisphere it's still meteorological spring, but actually, for many of us it's summer. With the summer temperatures come the buzzing, flying, crawling, biting, six-legged attendants of the season and we at EBSQ are happy to share some of them with you.

Art: Japanese Beetles by Artist Cathy (Kate) Johnson

Japanese beetles may be the gardener's bane, but I find them fascinating. Scarab-like in shape, colorful creatures--a challenge to paint with their glossy carapace. Watercolor on smooth (hot press) paper seemed the perfect medium, and a botanical-art handling with a clean white background made these little guys stand out. (They appear to be planning where to go for lunch...)
