Summer's End (SOLD)

This week's theme: The Waning of Autumn

In the Northern Hemisphere, we are roughly 2/3's of the way through Autumn. Things are looking more bare and exposed and the vibrant colours of earlier in the season are giving way to weathered browns and greys. The days are shorter, the nights are colder and Winter is close at hand.

Art: Summer's End (SOLD) by Artist Jackie K. Hixon

Done expressly for the EBSQ 'Sunflowers' show, this one is a bit more stylized than most of my work.The leaves were especially fun to do. Though I've painted blooming sunflowers before, I was surprised at how different a dying one was. And it seemed the essence of the last days of summer.
Won an Honorable Mention ribbon in the 2011 exhibit by Westlake-Westshore Arts Council.
