Art of the Day: Sunday March 14, 2010

This week's theme: The Candy Show

Friday, March 5th was the opening of EBSQ's first ever brick and mortar show. Melissa O'Brien, creator of hand crafted gourmet chocolates, was the co-curator along with the EBSQ staff. Since most of us could not be at the "Candy" opening, EBSQ is taking this week present a small taste of the work on display. "Candy" is currently running at The Chocolate Shoppe in Greensburg, PA, and is open to the public. If you can't get there in person, please visit the "Candy" show page on the EBSQ site to view the online portion of the show.

Chocolate. One of the worlds favourite candies. Chocoholic, the term for those of us who adore chocolate to distraction. Divine, heavenly, rich, melt in your mouth chocolate; that’s what this image portrays. Chocolate, or cacao, was originally served as a spicy, hot drink by the Mayans and Incans. It was brought back to Spain by the Conquistadors. New ways of using cacao were developed as this taste sensations popularity spread all over Europe and eventually the world, including the production of chocolate candy. Chocolate is still one of the world’s favourite flavours, especially when transformed into sinfully delicious candies such as those depicted in ‘HEAVENLY CHOCOLATE’. This image was developed by manipulating the mathematical formulas of an Apophysis flame. The dark brown background added a rich, delicious quality to this image of divine chocolate.
