Quilled Heron in Flight

- by Sandra J. White

This week's theme: The Birds and the Bees

For many, it has been a hard winter. Unusually hard and a far cry from what everyone is used to. For many in the Southern Hemisphere, their summer hasn't been any better. Because of this, we here at EBSQ have been day dreaming about spring and its easy, warm, peaceful days. Since spring is the time of new life, Art of the Day has decided that the birds and the bees is the perfect theme. And because it's so perfect, we will bring you two weeks of The Birds and the Bees. This week we present the birds. Next week we will have the bees - as the bird on Sunday is quite aware.

Art: Quilled Heron in Flight by Artist Sandra J. White
This is my Quilled Heron in Flight, an original artwork created by placing my rolls of paper beneath my cut out, simulating the feathers in the Heron. It is framed under glass in an 8"x10" brown frame, finished piece is 10"x12". This is one of my 'Herons on the Merrymeeting' collection, any of which can be combined for a dramatic focal piece on a wall.

Great Blue Herons are my favorite, as I see them all summer on the Merrymeeting River in Alton, New Hampshire. They are beautiful, quiet, and dramatic in flight. And huge......when they fly up behind when we are in a canoe, you really feel like they are in control of you.
