Artist comment:  "This painting is nearly the rainbow except for the greens.  I have seen some brilliant sunsets on the Pacific Northwest coast.  Here I have reproduced, from my memory, the intensity of color as the last rays of the sun lights up a rising wave.  I painted this oil as a companion piece to 'Last Blast (of color)'.  I was very excited to be continuing the 'red' theme in a different size and shaped canvas.  I began with a sketch of wave and rock, then painted the blues, reds, and dark browns.  I then articulated the purple foam patterns and the runoff on the rocks.  I saved the bright yellows for last and highlighted the splashes with pure white.  Three 'm' birds were the final touch."
