Lamar Valley - Spring

- by Lynn Bickerton Chan

This week's theme: Spring

It's here. We have been waiting and now it's here. The grip of winter has been released in warm breezes and bursts of color herald the arrival of the season of rebirth. It is Spring.

Lamar Valley in Yellowstone's northern range is a large U-shaped valley carved by glaciers. Its open grasslands, surrounded by forested hills, create a haven for wildlife. Bison and elk are often seen in the hundreds here and coyotes, wolves, and bears are frequent visitors. The historic Buffalo Ranch in Lamar Valley is the site where plains bison were ranched and allowed to intermix with the few remaining mountain bison to save the species from extinction.
