Dirty Window

- by Coppermouse

This week's theme: Fibre Art

EBSQ has a wide variety of galleries, filled with a diverse assortment of art. Over the upcoming months, Art Of The Day will be featuring explorations of the EBSQ Galleries that will be more in-depth than one short week can provide.

For the next few weeks, Art Of The Day will present art from the Fibre Art gallery.

Fibre Art is the use of textiles to create art or the creation of the textiles themselves.

Art: Dirty Window by Artist Coppermouse
There's a dirty window I can see you through. This is an original miniature art quilt by Coppermouse entitled, "Dirty Window." I began with an acetone transfer of an image of asylum patient from the nineteenth century on plain bleached muslin. Next I dyed her face with Jacquard's dye. Pieces of damask and cotton were machine pieced to create a frame. Green crystal organza was machine stitched over her eyes with blue thread creating a "window". Two types of stippling were used to create texture. There is some hand embroidery and a giant orange button contrasting the subdued cool color scheme.
