"A large colorful 'bol', also known as a 'flying crown', dances from sand to sky on a cool spring day."
Artist comment: "I have seen quite a few of these types of 'kites' at recent kite festivals. They are known as bols or crowns. This one is the largest ever! Amazingly, it does not take a lot of wind to lift it into the air (although it is meant to roll along the ground). I did this one with pastel on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper. I sketched it; then beginning with the sky, I painted the background; next the figure; Saving the colorful kite for last. I began with the 'inside', then painted the quilt pieces from left to right. Finally I added the lines that disappear off the right hand side of the painting."
