Sunflower Ladybug Vignette

- by Pamela K Wilhelm

This week's theme: Helianthus

They are named for the sun. Their symmetry is based on Fibonacci numbers. They are native to the Americas, but have traveled widely and have captured the eyes and imagination of people all over the world.

This is my Quilled Heron Fishing, an original artwork created by placing my rolls of paper beneath my cut out, simulating the feathers in the Heron. It is framed under glass in an 8"x10" brown frame, finished piece is 10"x12". This is one of my 'Herons on the Merrymeeting' collection, any of which can be combined for a dramatic focal piece on a wall.

Great Blue Herons are my favorite, as I see them all summer on the Merrymeeting River in Alton, New Hampshire. They are beautiful, quiet, and dramatic in flight. And huge......when they fly up behind when we are in a canoe, you really feel like they are in control of you.
