Orange Poppy Marmelade

- by Miriam Schulman

This week's theme: Poppies

Poppies are indigenous to many parts of the world and have been cultivated for thousands of years. They are found in myths and literature. Poppies are symbols of fertility and remembrance and they are used in cooking and for medicinal purposes. The narcotic properties of the opium poppy has provided us with some of the most addictive and destructive drugs we know, yet this same flower has allowed us to find relief from pain from ancient times to present day. There are many reasons to value the poppy, but when it's all said and done, it's the beauty of the poppy that make it a favourite.

Art: Orange Poppy Marmelade by Artist Miriam Schulman
This is a collage of piano sheet music on canvas with washes of watercolor both over and under the sheet music. This painting depicts bright orange poppies on a golden green and turquoise mosaic background. This technique will allow you to display my watercolors without glass. The canvas is specially prepared for watercolors and the surface has been finished with protective layers of UV coating. The sides are painted with glossy black paint. This painting depicts one of my favorite subjects, the bright orange poppies with gold stems against an olive green background. The colors are very complex. Check out the scans for the detail of true colors.
