When an artist decides to create, what they make comes from their unique perspective. When we take the time to look at a work of art, we sometimes see something - perhaps an object, a concept or landscape, in a way that we never have before. What we see isn't always what the artist saw when they made the piece. Sometimes we see something, that is in that moment, brand new.
Self portraits, 'selfies,' make me a little uncomfortable. I'm usually the one behind the camera lens, not in front of it. I shot this image of me looking into a mirror. (Part of the curved frame of the mirror is visible in the bottom corner). The original assignment was to create a melancholy composition. Well, this is me looking rather depressed even though I'm normally much happier. :)
I then took the image and re-created it as an etching for a set of dry point, hand-pulled prints. There are five prints to the 'Reflections of Me' set plus the artist's proof.
Below is the actual black and white image I used for 'Reflections Of Me.'
