I met this gal at the Sacramento state fairgrounds. She doubled as a trotter/trainer and a cold-shoe farrier. She learned both skills by hanging around horses, tracks and trainers since she was a kid. Cold shoeing refers to the fact that the shoes are not heated up and shaped on an anvil, but pounded cold and using a variety of standard sizes to fit. She had a hefty set of bicepts and was probably the most talented person I ever met--she thought nothing of what she did as extraordinary--which made her all the more fascinating.
