Shem Creek is the center of the fishing industry in Mount Pleasant, SC.  Like many berths for fishing boats, it draws shore birds, interested in the castoffs and commotion of the boats as they leave and return. During a calm interlude, this family of pelicans waits calmly for the hustle and bustle of the rising tide and the returning fleet and the tempting leftovers that accompany it.
