Hangin Around

- by Carol Thompson

This week's theme: No Particular Reason

This week's Art of the Day selections were chosen for no reason other than to bring pleasure. We hope you enjoy what we've selected.

Art: Hangin Around by Artist Carol Thompson

A delta conyne and three spinsocks make up this colorful display. Arranged by Pic-A-Patch Kites of Westport, Washington, the bright, warm, colored shapes stand out in sharp contrast to the cool, blue sky and sea.

Artist comment:  A favorite outing for myself and my family is a day at the beach, flying our kites or just relaxing and watching others fly theirs.  In this painting, I reproduced the scene of one bright colorful display.  The conyne kite holds the spinsocks aloft as they turn gently in the wind.  I especially like the contrast of the warm colors against the sky.  In my studio I used oil on linen to render the scene of sand, sea, and kites.
