The photograph presented here is part of my most recent body of work entitled American Relics which started for me over six years ago. Throughout this time I have thoroughly enjoyed wandering off the beaten path to discover lost artifacts tucked away off lonely roads – a rusted gas pump, a classic Studebaker, or a dilapidated building wasting away in the blazing Eastern Oregon sun. Visiting these locations transports me to another time and place where I am left to imagine why strangers worked and perhaps even died in the now weathered buildings.
