- by Heather Sims

This week's theme: Masks

A mask is a covering for part or all of the face. It can protect or conceal. It can be a likeness. A mask can be humorous or meant to frighten. They are used for fun, for ritual, celebration and for decoration.

Art: Carnival by Artist Heather Sims
Oh this was a fun one to paint! I painted this for Nibblefest theme "Masks". I bought this mask in 2007 when we vacationed in Italy in 2007 and visited Venice, Tuscany and Florence. I met the lady that made the mask. I knew when I saw the theme this month that I had to paint a Venetian mask! There was a lot of little details in this painting that was both a challenge and fun. I am pleased with the end results on this one.

This painting is painted on canvas and the 3/4 inch sides are painted black so there is no need for framing.
