Patty in Lilac Robe

- by Debra Schott

This week's theme: Lilac

Many colours take their name from flowers. The lilac is actually a flowering shrub with blooms in shades of purple, pink, white or blue. The lilac lent it's name to the colour lilac, which is best described as a light shade of violet. Yes, I know... the colour violet also get's it's name from a flower.

The placement of the figure and the direction of the light here was intriguing for me. I placed her left eye into the center and the main shot of light for the focal point. I brought the light from her forehead cheek area down the lilac robe and back up her shoulder returning to her face again. The green of her headband I felt was a nice landing spot to rest! I really like the dramatic backlight.
