Butterfly and Lilacs

- by Harlan

This week's theme: Lilac

Many colours take their name from flowers. The lilac is actually a flowering shrub with blooms in shades of purple, pink, white or blue. The lilac lent it's name to the colour lilac, which is best described as a light shade of violet. Yes, I know... the colour violet also get's it's name from a flower.

Art: Butterfly and Lilacs by Artist Harlan
It is not unusual for bugs to appear in my paintings but rarely as the focal point. I was lucky to find this delicate butterfly enjoying my lilacs in full bloom. Overall, this painting is far more impressionistic than my usual work.
