They are named for the sun. Their symmetry is based on Fibonacci numbers. They are native to the Americas, but have traveled widely and have captured the eyes and imagination of people all over the world.

One of two ACEO entries by me for June's Nibblefest Art Contest (NFAC) (the theme for June being 'Things With Wheels') , this piece features a craftswoman shaping clay upon a swiftly spinning pottery wheel into a lovely work of art....

I had fun with this month's theme, 'Things With Wheels'. One of the first things to pop into my head upon thinking of the theme, was the art of pottery and the pottery wheel. I've had limited experience with the technique myself -- but my daughter will be taking a pottery class later this summer, and I'm looking very much forward to seeing what she brings home.
