Arizona Four Sisters

- by Victor McGhee

This week's theme: Landscapes

Whether they are plein aire (created on site), or spring to life in an artist's studio, the Landscape is one of the most popular and enduring genres of art.

Art: Arizona Four Sisters by Artist Victor McGhee
This painting reminds me of four "sister" mountains in this abstract Arizona landscape. It's an original one of a kind Encaustic Painting, roughly 13" x 24". It's on a masonite panel behind which are two wooden cradles so it can be hung without a frame. When hung, it creates a shadow behind it, which makes it appear to float off the wall.

Encaustic paintings are a wonder to experience in person. They have a unique translucent quality to the layers of wax, inviting the light to penetrate the layers rather than reflect off the surface, creating a vibrant, texture-rich 3D effect
