Eagle Rock

- by Carol Thompson

This week's theme: Just A Pop Of Colour

This week doesn't have a lot of bright colours, but's the bright colours that it does have really pop.

Art: Eagle Rock by Artist Carol Thompson

"Standing at the edge of the sea, enjoying the last rays of sunset, you suddenly realize the dark mass before you literally represents the symbol of strength and freedom of this great country.  It is known as 'Eagle Rock'."

Artist comment:  "This small oil on stretched canvas is one of my first sunset paintings of the ocean.  On the Olympic Peninsula of Washington State, there are numerous offshore stack rocks.  As the summer sun sinks into the sea, the silhouetted headland seems to glow just at the edge of the cliff.  Glowing clouds reflect across the surface of the water.  The looming rock creates a blue shadow on the floating foam.  I emphasized the brightness of the translucency by surrounding it with the dark values of the deep water.  Painting the rock with palette knife played up the rugged edges of this volcanic monolith."
