This week's theme: It's The Holiday Season

This is a busy time of year for holidays. Monday is the start of two weeks filled with holidays and celebrations. In Northern Hemisphere the winter solstice falls on Wednesday and is the first day of the Yule Festival. Hanukkah begins on Saturday and Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are Saturday and Sunday. The 26th is Boxing Day and it's also the start of Kwanzaa. New Year's Eve is on Saturday, December 31st and the last day of this two week extravaganza is, of course, New Year's Day. Art of the Day will also be joining in on the festivities with 14 days of holiday themed art. We hope they brighten your day and we wish everyone a safe and happy holiday season.

Art: Christmas Family Original Oil Painting by Artist Lisa M. Nelson

This is an original oil painting on archival gessobord. This textured painting measures 5" x 7" x 1/8" thick and is cured, sealed and ready to be framed. Signed and dated on back. It was published in Holistic Parenting Magazine's November-December 2015 edition.

If you like cats, dogs, kids and whimsy, this painting is for you. A young family, dad carrying a small Christmas tree, walking on a moonlit snowy evening. A baby rides in the pack on dad's back and mom holds the hand of their little girl (in pink of course) who carries her doll. Their trusty dog follows nicely along - very well behaved - but the cats, well that's another story. Their black cats ride the sled with groceries and one is intent on knocking the apples out of the bag while the other mischievously watches the antics. In the background, candles (and cats) adorn the windows of the old Victorian farm house while snowcats and and a snowman grin at the passing family. There's a full moon and red holiday lights in the bushes. Ah, time for some hot chocolate and a good fire, don't you think? The original and limited edition prints are available in my Etsy shop.
