This painting was done directly from a photograph taken at my father's house. The evening sun was shining directly through the open window on the left, bathing the left side of the rocking chair in a bright light. Parts of the straw hat and watermelon were also aglow with sunlight, so I left these areas white to be true to photographic form. This painting emits the inner serenity of one who works with the land as a farmer or gardener.
