There are many kinds of families in this world. There are small, medium and large ones. There are nuclear families, extended families, families by blood, families by marriage, families by choice, nontraditional families and clans - just to name few. They don't all look the same or act the same. Many of us claim several kinds of families as our own. Yes, there are different types of families, but what actually makes a family, a family, remains constant. Families are made of shared values, deep bonds and the sense of being part of a "we", and each one has value.
Artist comment: "No matter the weather, it is a delight to see hardy clam diggers seeking the elusive mollusks. Here on Canson Mi-Teintes textured paper, I portray that moment in time. I sketched the scene with a neutral color on grey toned paper, then with a soft grey, I painted the sky, troughs, and a light swath of color across the sand. Next I rendered the ocean waves with their foam patterns. Finally I painted the figures. I put in a few dark lumps of sand to show where previous digs were. The best part was to do the colorful figures in typical poses."
