Magic, legends, mythical lands and the creatures that inhabit them capture our imagination. The world we live in falls away and we are allowed to do and be in ways that take us away from the drab and common place. This is one reason why Fantasy Art has always been popular. Over the course of next few months, Art of The Day will showcase the varied landscapes and residents of Fantasy Art.
This is an original sculpture, created last year for my show at the Green Man Review, in their now defunct Arthur Rackham Gallery. The show is now up on my own page, in my Greenman Gallery at http://cathyjohnson.info/gallery/index.html.
I find sculpture very exciting and very much of a challenge--terra cotta is delicious to work with. This one I began as a humanesque sculpture and then added leaves, a snail shell, and those ears in order to suggest her otherworldliness.
