Horton Bridge in Autum

- by Stephanie M. Daigle

This week's theme: Creeks and Streams

If you're a kid, having a creek close to where you live is like winning the lottery. Rocks to climb over and turn over, sticks to poke things with, dams to build, insects, all kinds of animals, mud - what more can any nine year old ask for? As grown-ups may not think as much about the magic of slippery banks, water falls, small, still pools created by a build up of rocks, sticks and other things floating down stream, but when we find ourselves in the presence of such wonders we discover that nine really isn't that far away.

My favorite season is here!  With it's fleeting vibrant colors and musky smells, I love Fall more than any other season.  Gone is the heat and humidity of Summer, and being able to enjoy warm sunny days and cool crisp quiet evenings, is what Fall is about.

One of my favorite neighborhood haunts year round is Amnicon Falls State Park.  The star attraction of the park is this beautiful covered bridge that takes you from the mainland to a beautiful island surrounded by the the Amnicon River, which splits in two above this bridge.  There is a series of waterfalls surrounding the entire island, making this a magical place to visit.

The bridge is known as one of the five remaining Horton Bridges in existence, all of which are in Wisconsin and owned by the DNR.   For information on the Horton Bridges you can visit this link:  Horton Bridges

I arrived at the park bright and early this morning, just after sunrise, so that I could photograph this peak leaf color scene during the "golden hour", when lighting is at it's absolute finest.
