Art: Found Leg Pots by Artist Dawn Lee Thompson
My intent with these pieces was to create something that looked like they could have been an archaeological find. Something useful, but mystical-full of strong magic. I wanted them to be a little scary, but appealing, nonetheless. It is fascinating to me that so much ancient art was functional. That unique human need to instill meaning and mysticism to everyday activities. These pots are a tribute to that instinct. I used local clays and simple glazes. As I did not have access to a wood fired kiln, I wanted to do what I could to make the pieces appear as technologically crude as possible through the materials.
