This time of year is one for celebrations of faith and community for many people in all parts of the world. Spirituality is a part of the core of most cultures and societies. We find evidence of spirituality at all points in human history. No where is this more evident than in our art.
SAINT LUCY 2003 is painted in luminous acrylic and oil glazes on gallery-wrapped stretched canvas. Saint Lucy is carries her eyes on a silver platter as her pennance.
My once-a-year tradition of painting Saint Lucy began when I purchased a painting of my favorite saint from Tim Campbell, my favoite folk artist from New Hampshire. his user name is "jrbtjc" on ebay (you're welcome, Tim!).
The background is a true black and the whole painting has a final glaze of sepia. She is sealed and finished with fragrant beeswax.
This ORIGINAL painted is very beautiful in person--I will include candles made with the same scent as my beeswax finish so the lucky winning bidder can see how she glows in candlelight.
Her dress (which was not intentionally klimt-ish--I do not plan these sort of things) is filled with patterns that are enhance with iridescent glazes and a variety of metallics.
please feel free to email me if you would like to see more close-ups--i'm not a great photographer but I do promise she's much better in person.
