Backyard Boogeyman

- by Caroline Lassovszky Baker

This week's theme: Bugs

The weather is getting warmer. We are returning to our yards and gardens. We aren't the only ones... The insects and spiders are back, too.

Art: Backyard Boogeyman by Artist Caroline Lassovszky Baker
This is a huge painting that any arachnid lover could feel comfortable with. This spider was actually about 1/4" across when I got a candid photo in my garden. The real thing probably wouldn't hurt a fly (OK, well maybe a fly, but it ran in terror from humans.) I went ahead and expanded the dimensions so spidey's livin' large. Canvas was folded to the origami frog base and dyed with a mixture of Procion Black, Peacock Blue and Clear Yellow. A resist was then applied liberally and the entire canvas was dyed with a mix of Procion Turquoise and Clear Yellow before scouring, sealing and applying the oil paint.
