This is a realistic still life of a cantaloupe cut in half. This my favorite fruit to eat on a lazy Sunday morning!
I was not going to enter the Orange Show, but I happened to be surfing the blogs and found a photo posted that intrigued me. I emailed the author and got permission to use the photo. I drew out the cantaloupes with charcoal then applied washes of mixed orange acrylic paint. ( I do not have an orange tube of paint yet :) I used primarily cad medium yellow, cad med red , yellow oxide, titanium white, and a little alizerin crimson, some winsor blue as well. The painting is varnished with a glossy med acrylic varnish.
I loved painting the shadows on the surrounding table and on the fruit itself. I am drawn to bright colors and shadows for a little mystery. The painting is extended to all sides and no frame is needed. The painting is wired and ready to hang. I truly thank Tony for his permission to use his photo!
