Art of the Day: Thursday October 10, 2013

- by Nijole Byer

This week's theme: Bird Eggs

In zoology, an egg is an organic vessel in which an embryo first begins to develop.

Art: Acantus by Artist Nijole Byer

Custom designed one of a kind ostrich and emu egg art is hand carved using dentist like tools. It takes a lot of time to arrange a design as each egg shell has its own custom shape and size. Some ostrich eggs are as round as melons, some are elongated as football. Emu eggs are unique due to its color structure: from dark emerald green top layer to teal middle layer and paper tissue thin last white layer. Every egg is professionally cleaned and sanitized, hand carved, some details 18K gilded and each egg is sealed for protection. It takes about 6 to 8 weeks to make each piece of art.

I strive to make my egg sculptures as unique as possible - each one contains a piece of my heart attached to it.  Hope that new owner of my art will love and enjoy it as much as I did while creating it.  All my art and images are copyrighted. All rights reserved.
