Rose Vase (Vase de Roses)

- by

This week's theme: "A rose is a rose is a rose." - Gertrude Stein

Or if you prefer something a little more contemporary, "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" - Poison.

Art: Rose Vase (Vase de Roses) by Artist
Acrylic paints were used as the basis for the painting. Texture gels (stucco, and glass bead gels) were liberally applied before the flowers were painted. This can be seen particularly in the reverse-embossed effect of the leaf shapes in the background near the vase, and in the texture created for the vase itself. Fabric was then cut out and then adhered and painted over to form the leaves. Postage stamps and small gold rings were attached to the surface using an acrylic medium (varnish) that permanently adheres the materials to the canvas.
