Three Bags Full

- by Carol Thompson

This week's theme: 1 through 7

Art of the Day is one piece of art for each of the seven days of the week. Seven for seven. No more. No less.

Art: Three Bags Full by Artist Carol Thompson

"A successful day of digging razor clams finds a group of men returning with hree bags full."

Artist comment:  "Clamming season on the coast of the Pacific Northwest brings out the hearty hunters.  In this pastel painting on Canson Mi-teintes textured paper, I depict a trio of gentlemen (perhaps all members of one family) happy and proud to be bringing home their limits of clams.  It was a cold overcast day, so typical of Washington and Oregon.  I chose grey toned paper and sketched the basic composition.  Starting with the sky, I painted the background, carefully rendering the breaking waves, then the ripples lapping against the shiny sand.  Lastly I put in the figures and their reflections with clam guns and bags full of clams.  A few piles of overturned sand completes the story.  yessir, yessir, three bags full."
