It's very easy to find ducks in a pond to photograph. What's hard is finding a fresh way to show them. I've been trying for years.
These particular mallards were photographed in a tiny pond near a golf course in Kent, Washington.
I wanted to show the stillness and peace of the pond, and establish the ducks strongly. So I boosted the contrast to smooth out the water and bring out their presence.
I also desaturated the color, to help the contrast and connect the ducks with their environment.
