Art: The Girl- unfinished by Artist Jennifer Andre Brown
On a recent trip back to Minnesota to visit the family, my mom took a box from the closet and told me I should go through it. I opened it to discover it full of drawings I did from about age 5 through my high school years. I was in shock and thankful that she held on to them all these years. I remember doing this particular drawing of a girl, from a picture I had found if memory serves me correctly. I was about 15 when I drew this, during the phase of my life when I felt I needed to practice drawing people. I remember that I stopped working on it because I was intimidated at the idea of drawing hands. So, I set it aside with no hands or shading added. I remember my teenage years were full of doubt and thinking I wasn't cut out to produce art. It's funny how we think at certain stages of our lives and I'm so grategful that I had enough encouragement and found belief in myself to pursue my dreams and follow through despite my fears.
