Visually, they are depictions of bulbs, roots, and their abstracted underground structures, using the above listed materials and subtractive methods.
36 handstretched, traditionally primed (rabbitskin glue and flake white) canvases create this work. Many of my paintings are based on a grid composed of 6 columns. I call this "my six-day week".
Each canvas represents a day or moment, each row, a week or group of years, collectively - my life. Other than being a lunar calendar from the day of my birth, the painting composes a landscape.
Each canvas is meant to hold together as a sole work. Each holds its own story, from conception to present. The painting contains collaged items such as wheat pennies, microscope slides, small bones, various seeds, and embroidery. It is a visual of my life through October 2004.
Thank you for viewing my work.
