The Departure

Acrylic painting on masonite

A beautiful sea mermaid is playing a melancholic serenade on her violin as the Odysseus' ship departs on a long voyage into the vast ocean of the unknown.
I have always loved epic poems, since I was in school. I was born and raised in Italy before moving in USA in 2010. When I was in highschool I had the fortune to have a great literature teacher (that I want to thank for all her hard work) and she made me love epic poems very much. We studied the whole Odissey and Iliad and I remember how much I was in love with those fantastic journeys and how much I was dreaming to be part of that epic world, populated by beautiful goddesses, mermaids and terrible monsters.
I was filling the blank spaces that I was finding between the pages of The Odyssey book with my pencil sketches: It was an impulse to always visualize and make "more real" all the wonderful creatures that I was meeting along those pages. The theme of the "travel" It's a theme that characterizes my whole life. Sometimes I feel a little bit like Odysseus, on an endless trip to the unknown, always departing from a new starting point, and I imagine the soundtrack of this journey, like a melancholic serenade on violin.
This original painting is up for auction on ebay. Framed and ready to hang!
