The souls of sailors who chased the Siren are swirling in the blue depths of the ocean. I've always felt that to be lost at sea, unrecovered, is a lonely place for a soul to reside and wanted to portray that cold eternity. This piece was painted in several layers starting with a bright red undercoat. I wanted to allow small areas of the red to peek though the subsequent layers to give a hint of sunlight sparkling in the water. I also mixed sand into the paint and applied it with a palette knife to give a greater texture and depth. The piece is 20" x 20" on stretched canvas.
