This piece was created as a tribute to a wonderful horse that shared my life for over a year. His soul is forever joined with mine.
Lladd
Gazing into the distance
Lladd hears a familiar sound -
Could it be a feed bucket?
He turns his head to hear.
Lladd was first created in clay. After I was satisfied with the piece, I created a rubber mold by mixing two part liquid rubber and carefully (!!!) pouring it onto the piece. When the mold was cured, I removed the clay. Then I poured liquid hydrostone (a mixture of plaster and stone) into the mold and allowed it to harden.
After the piece was hard I removed it from the mold and cured it in the oven. FInally, the patina was applied, using a multi-step process involving shellac, oil paint, bronze powder and wax.
