This chambered nautilus was painted especially for the Deep Sea Creatures Show, as I'd always been intrigued by them ever since I saw them on a Jacques Cousteau program as a child. When I began drawing it, I found that they are even weirder looking than previously thought, so it became a bit of a challenge.
The mulberry paper, with swirls of fiber, was left plain to indicate the ocean depths.
