This squid ended up sharing the ocean with a seahorse, and shells.Didn't want to get to dark with my colors so chose to use purple for the water.
This is a baby squid that is living in the higher depths of the Ocean one day he just might grow to 50 feet long and scare people on the surface of the ocean. For protection the squid ejects a blob of dark ink that congeals into a squid like shape and while its enemy is confused the squid escapes. The giant squid is the worlds largest invertebrate and its only real enemy is the Sperm Whale. The squid is known to live mostly in the Bathypelagic Zone of the ocean which is 1000 to 2000 feet in depth.
The piece was done on Arches 140 lb Hot Press Watercolor paper using Winsor Newton and Sennlier watercolors. ( SOLD)
